Girls Basketball: Cannon Falls stumbles at Randolph
Cannon Falls jumped out to a 22-18 lead over Randolph on Friday, but the Bombers couldn’t seal the deal, losing to the host Rockets 44-38 at the Randolph holiday tournament.
The biggest factor, according to Cannon Falls head coach Eric Mace, was the Rockets’ ability to get to the free-throw line at the end of the game.
“They got to the free-throw line 18 times in the second half, and we got there just four times,” Mace said. “That just shows a lack of aggression in the second half, which was the opposite of the first half for us. They were outhustling us and getting to the basket, and we didn’t do the same.”
Karly Friedges and Samantha Bey led Randolph with nine points apiece.
For the Bombers, Katie Noble had a team-high nine points along with three steals. Courtney Woodcock came up with eight points, eight rebounds and two blocks.
With the loss, Cannon Falls (1-7) will face Grand Meadow in the third-place game at 4 p.m. today.
