Cannon Falls Bombers

2012-13 Season: 1-24 overall, finished seventh in the Hiawatha Valley League Blue division with a 0-12 record. Lost to Dover-Eyota, 71-38, in the first round of the Section 1AA playoffs.

First Game: Dec. 2 at Medford.

Key Returners: Courtney Woodcock, Sr.; Maggie Rutter, Sr.; Grace Rutter, So.; Callie Loeschke, So.; Katie Noble, So.; Tayler Banitt, Jr.

Key Losses: None.

From Head Coach Eric Mace: “I expect big things from our whole team. We have no one player who has stood out over the past year, but we have learned to play much better as a team. I need all nine or 10 girls to improve on last year’s performance.”

Ellsworth Panthers

2012-13 Season: 3-19 overall, seventh in the Middle Border Conference with a 2-12 record; lost to Durand, 49-21, in the first round of the WIAA regional tournament.

First Game: Dec. 3 vs. Baldwin-Woodville.

Key Returners: Kelsey Betthauser, Jr., second team All-Middle Border Conference.

Key Losses: None.

From Head Coach John Kleppe: “We have a very strong core group of seniors with excellent leadership. We have to have our players meet their potential.”

Goodhue Wildcats

2012-13 Season: 23-6 overall, finished second in the Hiawatha Valley League Blue division with a 10-2 record; lost to Bethlehem Academy, 54-50, in the Section 1A-West finals; ranked fifth in Class 1A to end the season.

First Game: Nov. 29 vs. River Falls in Red Wing.

Key Returners: Mikayla Miller, Sr., first team All-Area, Class 1A first team All-State, All-HVL; Meredith Watson, Sr., All-HVL; Kali Ryan, Sr.; Shelby Hinsch, Jr.

Key Losses: Mikayla Tipcke, first team All-Area; Emilee Roschen.

From Head Coach Josh Wieme: “We need to stay healthy and find some outside shooting, some consistent scoring outside of Miller. We will need some underclassmen to become varsity ready real quick.”

Lake City Tigers

2012-13 Season: 16-10 overall, fourth in the Hiawatha Valley League Blue division with a 6-6 record; lost to Pine Island, 50-33, in the second round of the Section 1AA playoffs.

First Game: Nov. 30 vs. Wabasha-Kellogg.

Key Returners: Madi Green, So., second team All-Area, All-HVL; Breanna Gates, Jr., second team All-Area, All-HVL HM; Bailey Cronin, Jr., All-HVL HM.

Key Losses: Taylor Koller, first team All-Area; Allison Harvey; Ashley Gates.

From Head Coach Candace Dudley: “We have to find a way to be consistent. With graduating five seniors from last season, we will need our younger players to step up and contribute each night.”

Zumbrota-Mazeppa Cougars

2012-13 Season: 9-15 overall, fifth in the Hiawatha Valley League Blue division with a 5-7 record; lost to Lake City, 54-49, in the first round of the Section 1AA playoffs.

First Game: Nov. 29 at Dover-Eyota tournament.

Key Returners: Kalli Paukert, Sr., team MVP; Carley Henning, Sr.; Alyssa Stehr, Sr.; Molly Lawler, Sr.; Hailey Dykes, Jr.; Tayler Mort, Jr.; Alyssa Quam, Jr.

Key Losses: Laura Brunner, second team All-Area; Amber Jentsch, Geena Miller.

From Head Coach Scott Paukert: “We need to stay together, remain focused and keep improving throughout the season. We are not at the top of anyone’s preseason list, but we are excited about the type of team that we have the potential to become.
