Gene Raymond Carlson, 50
Gene Raymond Carlson was born June 17, 1963, in Red Wing, Minn., to Roger and Mary Jean (Jonas) Carlson. He was baptized at Concordia Lutheran Church in Red Wing. He grew up on the family farm in Featherstone Township, west of Red Wing. He was a 1981 graduate of Red Wing Central High School. He attended University of Wisconsin - Stout and Brown Institute from 1981-1984, graduating with an Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering. He then worked at Northern States Power (Xcel Energy) from 1984-1992. He enjoyed all sports, particularly hunting and fishing. Gene also loved dancing, racing, and golfing. Gene passed away Tuesday, Dec. 17, surrounded by family in Red Wing, at the age of 50 years and 6 months, following a long battle with multiple sclerosis.
He is survived by his mother Mary Jean; grandfather Raymond Jonas; his sister Charlene Dahl (Gary), sister Jolene (Scott) King, brother Allan Carlson, sister Suzanne (Dan) Shimon, and brother Gary (Tamela) Carlson; as well as by his nieces Alise Carlson (God daughter), Ariel Carlson, Kia Schullo, Caitlyn Bjornstad, Jessica Carlson; and nephews Mason Schullo, Ross Carlson, Garrett Dahl, Austin Schullo, and Ryan Carlson.
He was preceded in death by his father Roger Carlson; grandfather and grandmother Guybert and Lillian Carlson; and grandmother Marion Jonas.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21, at First Lutheran Church in Red Wing, Minn., with visitation starting at 1 p.m.
