KAUKAUNA - Ellsworth High School's wrestling team had a trio of top-three placewinners at the Cheesehead Invitational on Saturday.
EHS's Gabe Frandsen defeated two nationally ranked wrestlers on his way to first place at 160 pounds. He defeated Xavier Montavalo of Montini Catholic of Illinois by a 13-7 decision.
The Panthers Jens Latz placed second at 126 pounds, losing a close finals match 5-2 to Johnny Jemenez of Marimon Academy of Illinois.
Logan Kemmerer placed fifth for Ellsworth at 170. He won his final match 2-0 over Kenyon-Wanamingo, Minn's Drew Sathrum.
Ellsworth has several other wrestlers place in the championship bracket, including Sawyer Strom, 16th at 106; Tristan Mueller, 16th at 145; Brock Steldt 11th at 195; Ken Stowe, 12th at 220 and Brodey Kemmerer 10th at hevyweight.
Ellsworth finished 14th in the 26-school event with a score of 277. Montini Catholic won the team title with 554 points to Kaukauna's 521 points.
