Francis Carlson, 92, died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, June 1, at the care center at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Lake City.

Francis Roy Carlson was born on August 12, 1921 in Lake City to Roy and Dena Carlson. He attended Washington Elementary School and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1938. He went on to Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis. Francis served in the US Navy from 19421945 in the North Atlantic Fleet Air Wing Five and Seven. On August 18, 1944 he married MaryLou Johnson in Red Wing.

Francis was a lifetime resident of Lake City. He worked for his dad at Carlson Decorating and later became a co-owner of the company in 1948 along with his uncle, Roy D. Carlson, working for 40 years as an interior decorator.

Francis was a member of First Lutheran Church in Lake City, the Lake City Sportsman Club, Lake City Golf Club, VFW Post #8729 and American Legion Post #110, where he received a 60+ year award. He enjoyed spending time hunting, fishing, and playing golf.

Francis is survived by his loving wife of almost 70 years, MaryLou Carlson of Lake City; one daughter, Nancy (Blake) Shelton of Plymouth; one son, Bruce (Jody) Carlson of Lake City; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Dorothy Falk.

The memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 6th, at First Lutheran Church in Lake City with Pastor Darren Paulson officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Lake City at 1:00 p.m. with Military Rites by the Lake City VFW Post #8729 and Lake City American Legion Post #110. Friends and family may visit from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 5th, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Lake City Chapel in Lake City, and one hour prior to the service at the Church on Friday. Memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church.
