Frances Lillian Berning, 84, of Red Wing

Frances Lillian Berning, 84, of Red Wing, died Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at St. Brigid's at Hi-Park. She was born Sept. 21, 1924, to Otto and Ethel (Bryngelson) Sirinek. She attended schools in Chetek, Wis., and later attended the Minnesota School of Business. She married Gerald Berning on June 25, 1941, in Chetek.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the Western Fraternal Association, the VFW Auxiliary and was involved in Girl Scouts. She sang in the church choir and several musical groups. She enjoyed music, flower gardening, and bird watching.

Frances is survived by her husband, Gerald; three daughters, Marilyn (Donald) Peterson of Salt Lake City, Utah, Cheryl (Harold) Puppe of Woodville, Wis., and Sandra Fischer of Bowling Green, Ohio; two sons, Jerome (Betty) Berning of Decorah, Iowa, and Dana (Lou) Berning of Taylor Falls, Minn.; six grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, one granddaughter, two sisters, and son-in-law Todd Fischer.

Mass of Resurrection will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 20, 2009, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Thomas M. Kommers presiding. Burial will be at Burnside Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, and one hour prior to Mass at the church.

In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to St. Joseph's Catholic Church or Ebenezer Fairview Alzheimer's unit.
