Framing development

After 12 years in Red Wing, Red Wing Framing & Fine Arts Printing is opening a second location in Rochester.

“We are very excited about growing our business,” said John Becker, co-founder of Red Wing Framing & Fine Art Printing. “We have been planning this for several years and the timing is right.”

The new branch of the business – named Rochester Framing & Fine Art Printing – will be located at 400 S. Broadway in downtown Rochester.

Becker said he anticipates opening the doors sometime in early summer.

“This is a big step for our business,” he said. “Rochester Framing & Fine Art Printing will allow us to leverage our experience and capabilities in a new market and that is especially exciting.”

Becker said working on opening the new location is like starting a whole new business, which is a big part of the fun.

The expansion, Becker said in an email, is driven by the Destination Medical Center – part of Mayo Clinic – potential in Rochester.

Becker said he anticipates the DMC will mean a lot of new walls and they are in the wall business. Rochester Framing & Fine Art Printing will be a DMC design studio, he added, and projects will be conceptualized in Rochester.

Production will take place in a centralized location, which has yet to be determined, and will serve both Rochester and Red Wing.

Becker referred to this as a "spoke and hub" business model.

Becker co-founded Red Wing Framing & Fine Art Printing with his wife, Valerie, in 2002 and they provide custom framing, large format fine-art printing and print-on-demand web-based photography products.
