Football: Quandt's big night lifts Stewartville over Lake City
Lake City got a quick strike from its aerial game early in Friday’s Southern Football Alliance Red division game against Stewartville. But Lake City could not slow down quarterback Aaron Quandt as Stewartville rolled to a 35-14 victory.
With 8 minutes, 30 seconds left in the first quarter, Lake City’s Reid Lundell found Brady Kuchinka for a 64-yard touchdown pass for an early lead. But Quandt connected early and often with wide receiver Conner Hanf, tossing touchdown passes of 4 and 5 yards in the first quarter.
With 4:19 left in the second quarter, Quandt and Hanf once again had a scoring connection, putting Stewartville up 21-7 on a 19-yard score. As time winded down in the first half, Lake City tacked on a touchdown as Will Balow finished off a 7-play, 81-yard drive with a 13-yard rushing touchdown to make it 21-14 at the break.
Lake City had a drive stall in the Stewartville red zone, and Quandt made them pay, driving his team down 84 yards on 15 plays. Stewartville completed the drive on an 8-yard touchdown reception by Collin Stenberg to make it 35-14 with 1:39 left in the third.
Quandt completed 25 of 44 passes for 324 yards and four touchdowns, with Hanf grabbing 12 balls for 149 yards and four scores. Stenberg added five catches for 58 yards and a touchdown for Stewartville (2-0, 2-0 SFA Red)
