Football: Goodhue gets convincing win over Kingsland
Goodhue bounced back from a season-opening heartbreaking loss to Hayfield last week by winning in convincing fashion Friday night.
The Wildcats knocked off Kingsland 40-6 for the Southern Football Alliance Blue Division win.
Kingsland actually scored the first touchdown in the game to take a 6-0 lead in the opening quarter, but Goodhue Coach Tony Poncelet said it didn’t take long for his squad to buckle down.
“After that opening drive our defense really settled down,” Poncelet said. “And offensively I think our offensive line wore their defensive line down.”
Senior running back Riley Huemann continued to shine for the Wildcats. After scoring three touchdowns last week, Huemann scored two more against Kingsland and also added three two-point conversion run. Younger brother Garett Huemann also scored for Goodhue on a 59-yard run, while teammate quarterback Tyler Schumacher added the Wildcats’ fourth rushing score on a run of 49 yards.
Schumacher also completed two passing touchdowns – a 29-yard throw to Austin Buck and a 7-yard toss to Alex Thomforde. Gilmer Gomez chipped in three extra points to round out Goodhue’s scoring.
Goodhue (1-1, 1-1 SFA Blue) returns to action Friday with a home game against Chatfield.
