Red Wing High School 2006 graduates Nate Haustein and twins Jack and Robert Knudsen created River’s Edge Digital Media, a video production company, as a side job during their freshman year of college.

Since then the three have made a quite a name for themselves in the world of videography.

After a year working corporate jobs fresh out of college, Haustein and the Knudsens now work full time for themselves under their company brand Flight Creative Media.

“We realized we had opportunities to make a successful run out of hobby we started in college,” Robert said.

Video projects have grown from doing local dance shows and plays in Red Wing to producing more corporate brand story videos for a number of different types of industries and companies. “We learn something new with each project,” Robert adds.

The Minneapolis residents are sharing their latest production, “100 Years: The St. Olaf Choir in Norway,” with the people of Red Wing.

The full-length movie will be shown 7 p.m. Thursday Jan. 30 at the Sheldon Theatre.

“It’s a story we are passionate to share,” Robert Knudsen said.

The documentary follows the St. Olaf Choir’s trip to Norway in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the choir’s formation.

In 1913, the college choir first traveled to Norway, explained Robert. For the centennial trip, they wanted to document the journey of the group’s return. Both Robert Knudsen and Haustein spent three weeks traveling with the choir, documenting concerts, tours and everything in between.

Although the guys have been traveling quite a bit more throughout the states in the last few years for work, this trip overseas is the farthest.

“This was our first big international trip and my first time to Norway,” Robert Knudsen said. “Jack and I are Norwegian in our ancestry and to see what kind of country we’re from was pretty neat.”

The movie premiered at St. Olaf College in December, filling an auditorium including some Norwegians who had been a part of the choir’s trip and traveled to Northfield just to watch it, he added. “That was pretty cool.”

Flight Creative Media has created videos for Cargill’s flight department to the Professional Disc Golf Association World Championship, among others.

“We will often tie in Red Wing to the projects by shooting in town or using elements of the scenery and beauty, for the pieces we have more creative input on.”

He went on to say one of the reasons they wanted to create a production is because of their initial love for filming – which started at a very young age on an old camcorder.

“Our ultimate goal when we started this was to create a production company, get enough gear and assets to eventually to make our own short films.”

River’s Edge Digital Media, the original company, still operates and produces work for events, dance shows and weddings, Jack Knudsen said. Flight Creative Media produces corporate video.

Robert Knudsen said he is looking forward to showing their latest film at the Sheldon Theatre. Years ago, River’s Edge Media was hired by the Sheldon to produce a musical.

“It was our first paid gig,” he added.

There is no charge to see the film, only a suggested donation, which they plan on giving back to the arts community.

“It’s a thank you to Red Wing, the Sheldon and the arts community,” Robert Knudsen said. “Red Wing has been great for inspiring us to do what we love to do full time.”
