Fire reported at solid waste campus
The Red Wing Fire Department extinguished a fire at the city’s incinerator Monday evening, the agency reported.
The department received a call at 6:33 p.m. reporting a fire alarm at the 1873 Bench St. site, the department said in a news release. When firefighters arrived, there was smoke coming from roof vents and sprinklers had been activated. Machinery in the building had caught fire, which extend to stored processed garbage, the fire department reported. Firefighters used water and foam on the machinery and garbage, and the fire was under control in about 20 minutes.
Twelve firefighters responded to the call, and personnel remained on scene for about two hours.
There were no injuries, the fire department said, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
