Fire damages Welch Township home
Fire caused major damage to a Welch Township home Thursday evening, the Red Wing Fire Department reported.
Crews were dispatched to 1940 Wiobata St., at about 8:45 and were on scene within 13 minutes.
The home, which is owned by Gary Mollicks, was not occupied when the fire started, and no one was injured in the blaze.
Crews were able to extinguish the fire within about 10 minutes, Capt. Dan Simonson said. However, the blaze caused major structural damage to the living room and roof. There was also major smoke damage to the rest of the house.
A total of 12 firefighters were on scene for more than three hours. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Simonson said that early detection of the fire and a quick response by fire crews helped prevent more damage to the home.
