Fire consumes Frontenac-area home
State fire investigators were looking into the cause of a fire that burned a Florence Township home to the ground.
Lake City firefighters were called at 12:30 p.m. Sunday to the Wallace and Lois Berlin residence on Hill Avenue for a house fire.
Lake City fire Chief Todd Hubbard said the house was fully engulfed by the time firefighters arrived. No one was home at the time of the fire, he said.
Hubbard said the Minnesota Fire Marshal's Office was investigating the cause, but Hubbard said initial discoveries indicated a wood stove might have been a factor. He said the fire likely originated in the basement.
Hubbard did not have a loss estimate total but said the home and contents were a complete loss.
The fire burned for approximately six hours in single-digit temperatures.
"The fire department did a good job considering the conditions they were in," Hubbard said.
Hubbard said no firefighters were injured during the incident.
Red Wing and Wabasha firefighters assisted with water.
