The Red Wing School Board held a regular meeting on Monday, February 3, 2014 at City Hall Council Chambers. Board members, Superintendent Karsten Anderson, staff and public were present. Chair Jones called the meeting to order at 5:30pm.
Motion by Anderson, second by Ryan to approve the agenda as presented. Motion carried 7-0.
2.1 Recognitions: Patti Roberts, Sunnyside Elementary Principal, was recognized by the Rotary Club for Service-Above-Self Award. Middle School Honor band, RWHS band ensemble and solo programs, Middle School & RWHS speech teams were recognized for their accomplishments.
2.2 Public Comment: none
2.3 Reports: Paul Kramp is vice-chair of GCED board, a sub-committee of CE Advisory Committee discussed communications, the ES PAC is planning to donate money for technology equipment, and the tech committee pilot is close to the end of the 3rd phase of 4 phases.

Motion by Kramp, second by Farrar to approve the consent agenda as presented. Motion carried 7-0.
3.2Middle School Schedule: Chris Palmatier and Joe Jezierski presented information about proposed changes to the middle school schedule. Formal approval will be requested at the next school board meeting February 18, 2014.
3.3School Changes Calendar: Motion by Kramp, second by Farrar to alter the 2013-14 school calendar by converting the staff development/work day on February 28th to a student day, eliminate the early releases on March 4th, March 6th, and May 23rd. Motion carried 7-0.
Upcoming meetings were announced.
Motion by Farrar, second by Ryan to adjourn. Motion carried 7-0. Chair Jones adjourned at 8:12PM.

Red Wing Public Schools
The Red Wing School Board held its second monthly meeting on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at RWHS Little Theater. Board members, Superintendent Karsten Anderson, staff and public were present. Chair Jones called the meeting to order at 5:35pm.
Motion by Ryan, second by Farrar to approve the agenda as presented. Motion carried 7-0.
2.1 Upcoming Events:
School Board Recognition: The MSBA has set February 17th – 21st as School Board Recognition Week in Minnesota.
Ms. Hockey Award Finalist: Nicole Schammel is one of five finalists for the Ms. Hockey Award presented to the top senior girls’ high school hockey player in Minnesota. The recipient will be named on February 23rd.
State Tournaments: The girl’s hockey team plays in the state tournament on February19th. Irina Anderson will participate in the vault at the state gymnastics tournament.
2.2 Public Comment: none
2.3 School Lunch Policy: In a widely publicized report, Red Wing was denoted as offering alternative meals when children cannot pay. Superintendent Anderson described the districts lunch policy when students owe money for lunch. Students who owe money can access an “Angel Account” or receive a sandwich and milk.
2.4 Reports:
Committee Reports: In addition to written updates from committees, Kramp noted that all GCED districts approved the GCED facility, GCED is waiting for MDE approval, all districts need to finalize a Joint Powers Agreement for a land exchange, and GCED needs to secure financing.
Jones noted that parents who want to help with prom decorating should contact the high school office.

3.2Corrected Superintendent Contract for 2013-14:
Motion made by Jones, second by Christensen to approve the corrected version of the Superintendent’s 2011-14 contract. Motion carried 7-0.
3.3Middle School Schedule:
Motion by Christensen, second by Baldwin to approve an 8-period day for the middle school beginning with the 2014-15 school year and to authorize the Superintendent to proceed with making all necessary preparations for implementing the change. Motion carried 7-0.
3.4Budget Revisions for 2013-14:
Motion made by Kramp, second by Anderson to approve the budget revisions for 2013-14 as presented. Motion carried 7-0.
3.5Closed Session to Discuss Labor Negotiations Strategy:
Motion made by Anderson, second by Ryan to close the meeting to discuss labor negotiations strategy with the teacher bargaining group at 6:25pm. Motion carried 7-0.
Motion made by Farrar, second by Christensen to reopen the meeting at 7:28pm. Motion carried 7-0.
Prior to the closed session, Jones noted upcoming meetings of the school board and its committees.
Motion by Ryan, second by Farrar to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried 7-0. Chair Jones adjourned at 7:28pm.
