Leitner finished as the runner-up to Rochester Mayo's Riley Macon, who enters the season ranked sixth in Class 2A.

River Falls won the boys meet with 50 points and Mayo finished second with 66 points. The Wingers had 133 points in the 15-team field.

"It's not your typical golf course meet," Red Wing head coach Jesse Nelson said. "It was just nice to get some competition and see where we're at compared to some other teams."

Red Wing sophomore Aiden Winn placed 25th with a time of 20:44, senior Jordan Hassemer finished 27th overall in 20:49. Freshman Marcus Warrington finished 30th with 21:03 and sophomore Joe Partington placed 49th in 21:58.

Anderson takes ninth; girls take fifth

The Red Wing girls cross-country team took fifth as well with 183 points and was led by junior Kelsee Anderson, who finished ninth overall with a time of 23:18.

"I think she had a solid race," Nelson said. "We'll see better things out of her."

Wausau West won the meet with 50 points and River Falls took second with 56 points. The girls teams ran the same course as the boys.

Wingers senior Cori Fairbanks followed Anderson with a 28th place finish and a time of 25:12. Sophomore Lindsay Scribner finished 36th overall in 25:24 while sophomore Hailee Johnson finished 44th in 26:09 and sophomore Shayna Ramstad ran the race in 27:12 to take 66th.
