Jewels and chocolate. They're a girl's two favorite things. That is according to Andrea Hamilton and the other organizers of the Goodhue Historical Society's Bling and Chocolate fundraiser taking place Sunday.

It's the fifth year the historical society has put on the event, which will feature a silent and oral auction of jewelry and other decadent items like a fur jacket and vintage handbags.

Goodhue County History Center supporters have donated all of the nearly 200 auction items, and the proceeds from the auctions will benefit the center, which houses the historical society's collections.

Plenty of chocolate desserts and other treats will be on hand for guests to enjoy between placing bids.

"It's really fun; everyone has a great time," Hamilton said.

This year, because it's taking place during Hollywood's award season, the event's theme is the Oscars. Guests will be able to walk the red carpet, bid on movie posters and sign up for DVD drawings.

The big prize this year will be a chocolate diamond pendant, provided by an anonymous donor and Deleon Jewelers.

"We thought that would be perfect for our event because it's a nice marriage of our themes," Hamilton said.

Guests can purchase one of 30 matching pendants. Only one is the real chocolate diamond; the others are cubic zirconia.

And, even though the fundraiser combines many of the things women tend to love, Hamilton said anyone can enjoy the event.

"We welcome any man who would like to come," she said.
