COLFAX - The Elmwood/Plum City and Spring Valley prep girls track and field teams both tied for the WIAA Division 3 Colfax Sectional title Thursday.
Both teams scored 62 points in the meet. EPC notched a tie with SV by placing second in the 1600-meter relay. It's the first sectional title for either program.
All four relays teams from EPC qualified for the state meet. The 3200-meter relay team of Elaina Danzinger, Heather Von Holtum, Morgan Sweeney and Becky Hartung set a new EPC and sectional record with a time of 9:55.48 to place first.
Also taking first for EPC was Sarah Gilles in the 300-meter low hurdles. She was EPC's lone individual champion. Other individual qualifiers for the EPC girls are Jessica Olson in the 300 hurdles and Elaina Danzinger in the 800.
Spring Valley was led by the 30-point performance of Breanna Colbenson. She was the sectional champ in the 800, 1600 and 3200-meter runs. All her times were personal bests.
The Cardinals also qualified Molly Green in the long jump, Sam O'Brien in the 100-meter dash and both their 800 and 3200 relay teams.
SV's boys also did well, placing fifth overall and qualifying several athletes for state.
Kyle Bosshart won the sectional title in the long jump and qualified in the 100. Connier Sieracki qualified in the two-mile run by placing fourth, Rex Gould made it the 110-meter high hurdles by finishing third and Tyler O'Keefe placed third in the 400 to qualify for state as well.
EPC's Seth Jones pair of seconds in the 400 and 800 qualified for state and helped EPC place 17th in the meet out of 29 schools.
The WIAA State meet is set for next weekend in La Crosse.
