Elmwood grids end losing streak to PC
PLUM CITY - For the first time in seven seasons Elmwood High School finally had a close game with Plum City go its way as the Raiders spoiled PC's Homecoming with a 26-20 win Friday.
Elmwood quarterback Jaylen Case threw for three touchdowns passes, all of them to Logan Wolf. He had 131 yards passing and Wolf caught four passes for 51 yards while rushing for 52 yards on 14 carries.
The contest was tied at halftime and the Blue Devils grabbed the early momentum in the second half when quarterback Chad Fox threw a 21-yard touchdown strike to freshman Austin Coss that, along with Lawton Radle's two-point conversion run, gave Plum City a 14-6 lead.
But Elmwood quickly regained the momentum when David Rhy scored on a 75-yard kick-off return. It's the second week in a row the Devils have given up a kick-off return for a score as special teams once again proved costly. Plum City still led 14-12 but Elmwood scored again to start the fourth quarter and took its first lead at 20-14.
Plum City tied the game midway through the quarter on perfectly executed halfback option pass from Kris Krueger to Kyle Erickson for 32 yards on a fourth down play.
But with under :35 seconds to go Case hooked up with receiver Seth Jones for a 57-yard pass play down to the Plum City two-yard line. With just :18 seconds remaining Case hooked up with Wolf for a seven-yard touchdown pass which become another last-second loss for the Blue Devils in Lakeland South Conference action.
Elmwood has its Homecoming next Friday vs. Alma/Pepin while Plum City is at Prairie Farm.
