Eleanor Neeley, 92

Eleanor Albers Neeley, born Nov. 7, 1920, in Goodhue County, Minn., died Aug. 1, 2013, in Volin, S.D.

Preceded in death by husband SM/SGT F.K. Neeley and daughter Janet Neeley Matthews.

Survived by sisters Lorraine Peterson of Red Wing, Minn., Florence and Kenneth Bremer of Red Wing, and brothers, Howard and Dianne Albers of Mazeppa, Minn., Robert and Sue Albers of Lake City, Minn; children David and Joanne Neeley of Seward, Neb., Barbara and Keith Swenson of Volin, S.D., and Mary Ann Neeley and Nette Shaw of Fulshear, Texas; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many friends.

Internment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minnesota.

Eleanor graduated from nursing school in 1942 and joined the U.S. Army as a lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps during WWII. She served in England from 1943-1944. She married Frederick K. Neeley on July 28, 1945. Eleanor retired from the U.S. Civil Service in 1986 and lived with her family in Columbus, Miss., until moving to Seward, Neb., where she resided until 2012.

She passed away at her daughter's home in Volin, S.D. She was a strong and independent woman who pursued her nursing career, was a single parent during her husband's deployments in Korea and Vietnam, and moved her family to numerous military bases during her husband's career in the USAF. She had a strong faith; she was "faithful until death" and has received "the crown of life."
