Editorial: Running on
Soaring high: Red Wing High School boys cross-country team scored a double victory Thursday, winning the section title and earning a trip to the state meet. We hope the Wingers enjoy a feeling of satisfaction that goes so deep that the blisters, shin splints, muscle pulls and wind-burned cheeks are hazy memories of the hundreds of miles it took to accomplish a big goal.
Cross-country meets don’t draw the hometown crowds that some other sports might. In fact, Red Wing has just one home meet, but the state contest in Northfield is close enough to home that we hope the community has a good showing of support.
Keep on running, boys.
Soaring high: Asian carp threaten U.S. waters, not just the Mississippi and Minnesota rivers. We applaud the Minnesota congressional delegation for pressuring Washington to be part of the solution. Erecting barriers is a necessity.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources also needs the help and cooperation of federal agencies.
