Editorial: Ring in the season
Soaring high: Salvation Army bell ringers wear a younger face this year, thanks to the seventh-grade basketball team. How heartening to know that these young people are learning early about helping others.
Of course, the longtime ringers will be collecting donations at the usual locations. We appreciate their efforts, too.
Now drop some coins in the red kettle nearest you.
Soaring high: Hungry elementary students have Packing for the Weekend courtesy of the local United Way. Their high school counterparts soon will have food to take home, too. Classmates are helping spearhead the effort. Pretty neat.
This is another example of the Red Wing School District's emphasis on volunteering and community service. Readers may recall that 2011-12 was the first school year in which any student can earn a letter -- just like the athletes can -- but for helping others.
Winger pride is indeed soaring high.
