Editorial: Give thanks for bounty
We have much for which to give thanks this Thanksgiving weekend.
As the East Coast recovers from Hurricane Sandy, the Midwest enjoys crisp autumn days at their best.
The nation's unemployment rate was 7.9 percent in October while it was 5.8 percent in Minnesota and 6.9 percent in Wisconsin, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Put another way, the Red Wing area can give thanks that more than 94 percent of those eligible for employment actually have jobs.
Hiawatha Valley farmers, meanwhile, report a good harvest. They provide much of the food that will fill our tables tomorrow and in months to come.
And those who "have" are helping those who "have not," as witnessed by Give to the Max totals reported on today's front page and the successful CROP Walk recounted in a letter on the Opinion page.
Our free nation also completed another presidential election - something that so many people around the globe hope to see once in their lifetime. Here, it happens every four years.
Let's give thanks.
