Editorial: An engaged citizenry
The 2012 election had something for everyone, we wrote a week ago. We urged eligible citizens to vote ... and just about every one of them did.
The Goodhue County Auditor/Treasurer's Office reports 94 percent of registered voters -- including new ones -- cast ballots. Who knew that local citizens would beat their astonishing 2008 turnout that topped 90 percent.
Nationwide, 57.5 percent of eligible people voted, according to the Center for the Study of the American Electorate.
Minnesota again led the nation with roughly a 76 percent turnout.
Minnesotans clearly are engaged in their government. We're proud to say that Goodhue County citizens are among the most engaged and take their civic duty seriously. Each and every one of us plays a role in this government of, by and for the people.
