Dennis D. Gonyea, 80

Dennis D. Gonyea, age 80, of Minnetonka, was born Jan. 15, 1934 and died June 13, 2014.

Denny, "Gunnar", graduated from Red Wing High School and St. Cloud State University. After serving in the United States Navy, he built a business - Gonyea Company, developing land across the Twin Cities. Denny believed that anyone could make themselves a success with hard work.

Preceded in death by parents, Dayton and Esther; brother, Ronnie; sister, Karen Bauer; and brother-in-law, Curt Karls.

He will be missed by his beloved wife, Frances Ann (52 years of marriage); devoted children, Maria (Chuck) McGannon, Dave (Jackie), Paul (Julie), Tom (Michele), and Sue; 10 grandchildren, Niklas and Mitchell McGannon, Dayton, Danielle, Cassidy, Lucas, Lucy, Jack, Emma and Gina Gonyea; sisters, Kay (Jim) Rinder, and Pat Karls; brother, Darrel (Chris); and brother-in-law, Helmer Bauer; as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Denny passed away due to complications following a severe fall while working in the garden. His passions included watching his grandchildren play sports, traveling, gardening and in the fall, pheasant hunting with family and friends in South Dakota.

Denny lived life to the fullest. In that spirit, we will celebrate his life at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 24. Short service at 4:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the Alzheimer Society or Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
