Cross-Country: Wildcats make long-awaited return
Competing in its first cross-country meet in 35 years, Goodhue girls took third place while the boys placed fifth at the Wabasha-Kellogg Gallop Invitational on Tuesday.
Ninth-grader Cassandra Voth led the Wildcat girls with a seventh-place time of 14 minutes, 54.3 seconds, helping Goodhue to 65 team points. Madison Schafer was 11th at 15:24.7, and Rachel Watson placed 12th at 15:33.5.
Rochester Area Home School took first in the girls’ meet with 27 points, followed by Pine Island’s 34 points. Rochester’s Kelly Erpelding was the top runner at 13:00.5.
For the boys, Joel Gadient was the Wildcats’ top runner, placing 10th at 12:00.0. Matt Lexvold followed in 14th (12:18.3) and Ryan Alpers followed in 15th (12:19.2), pushing Goodhue to 93 points.
In the six-team meet, Rochester Area Home School was first with 48 points, followed by Pine Island (56) and Wabasha-Kellogg (75).
