Cross-Country: Bombers' Trost, Lake City girls winners at Stewartville
Cannon Falls’ Emi Trost took top honors, and the Lake City girls cross-country team took first place at the Stewartville Invitational Thursday at Bear Cave Park.
Trost, the top-ranked runner in Class 1A, won the individual title with a time of 11 minutes, 33.5 seconds, which was over 42 seconds better than Rochester Area Home School’s Kelly Erpelding, who finished in second. Bombers teammate Katherine Hoffman finished in eight place at 13:15.9, helping Cannon Falls to a fourth-place finish with 154 points.
The Tigers had 69 points on the way to a first-place finish, besting second-place Stewartville, which had 121 points. Eighth-grader Liv Kozlowski (12:54.0) and junior Becca Goertzen (13:09.4) finished in fifth and seventh place, respectively.
Zumbrota-Mazeppa/Kenyon-Wanamingo placed ninth with 185 points, led by eighth-grader Skyler Jacobson’s 14th-place time of 13:33.6.
Lake City had the area’s top finish in the boys’ meet, placing fifth with 173 points.
Winona Cotter won the meet with a score of 73, while Plainview-Elgin-Millville (84) and La Crescent (126) rounded out the top three. New Richland-Heartland-Ellendale-Geneva’s TJ Schiltz took top honors with a time of 10:11.3.
Ninth-grader Carl Kozlowski was Lake City’s top runner with a fourth-place time of 10:37.3, and Cole Willers followed with a time of 11:37.7, good for 28th place.
Z-M/K-W placed fifth with a score of 224, led by Eric Hokanson’s 22nd-place time of 11:29.2. Ben Kleese followed in 36th with a time of 11:44.7. The Cannon Falls boys took ninth with 236 points. Bjorn Pearson was the Bombers’ top runner with a 20th-place time of 11:24.0, while Connor Rohr placed 37th at 11:46.1.
