Costumes available for hangar dance
The Sheldon Theatre Costume Shop is opening its doors to anyone who wants to rent a costume to wear to the Goodhue County Historical Society's second annual World War II era hangar dance.
The fundraising dance will be Sept. 14 at the Red Wing Airport. The evening will start with free swing dance lessons at 5:30. The Generation II Big Band will play from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m.
A costume contest will take place during the first intermission. Authentic uniforms and clothing are welcome, but people also are invited to dress in garb with the look of the 1940s.
People interested in renting suits or uniforms, dresses and a wide variety of accessories — hats, ties, gloves, fur stoles, shoes and more — can find them in the costume shop. There is a charge, and clothing which is rented must be cleaned before being returned.
Costume shop open hours are from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday and from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday Sept. 3.
The costume shop is in the basement level of the city building at 419 Bush St., behind Red Wing City Hall. The entrance is off the alley between the two buildings.
Tickets to the dinner-dance are $30. For information or to purchase tickets, contact the History Center, 651-388-6024.
