The Republican Eagle REaders' Board, like the news, changes continually, and six people have signed up for a 12-month term to help us improve.

• Muriel Henderson returns for a second term. She first served April 2005 to March 2006.

"I enjoyed it so much I'm back for more," the retired teacher said. "And a lot of things have happened in journalism since then."

• Gary Iocco also is on his second term. He served in 2008.

"It's always interesting listening to the give and take in this room," he told fellow board members last month.

• Paul Irwin presents two demographics. He's a physical therapist at Fairview Red Wing Medical Center and the father of two young children.

• Theresa Luther-Dolan is relatively new to Red Wing and is the director of Adult Basic Education for regional school districts; Red Wing is homebase. She needs to learn what's happening in Red Wing and Goodhue County, she said. "The paper covers things in both."

• Emily Nelson works at Hope Coalition and is the interim director. She's worked with the newspaper in several capacities getting out the word about Haven of Hope (the former Women's Center), the transitional housing program and more.

"The paper is an integral part of our community, and I would like to be involved," she said.

• Bunny Petersen, who is a 19-year resident of Red Wing, is looking forward to participating as a member of the REader's Board. She thinks encouraging people to share their views with the local newspaper is important. Having a diverse group of volunteers review and discuss these views culminating in the selection of a winner is an excellent way to show appreciation for community involvement and spirit, she said.

They join five others on the board:

• Jeff Marcus, who works at Red Wing Shoe and is the treasurer and co-founder of the Red Wing Photography Club. He describes himself as an avid non-fiction reader.

• Carl Long, who is a former teacher and professional basketball player.

• Don Regelman, who represents Red Wing Public Library in SELCO - Southeastern Minnesota Libraries Cooperating. He's also served on City Council, Red Wing Public Library Board, the Red Wing Energy Commission and Heritage Preservation Commission.

• Jessica Wheeler, who works at Red Wing Family YMCA and the Remedy after-school program. She has two young children.

The departing board members are Sam Blue, Rich Lyon, Nancy Harris and Dee Callstrom. We fully expect they'll continue providing us feedback, just as we encourage all our readers to do.
