Cold weather heating rule begins Tuesday
Minnesota’s Cold Weather Rule starts Oct. 15 for utility customers who may have difficulty paying energy bills this winter.
Eligible residential energy customers are protected from having services shut off through April 15 under the rule, provided a disconnection would affect the customer’s primary heating source, according to Xcel Energy.
Customers are urged to contact their utility as soon they receive a notice of proposed disconnection to set up a payment plan. Eligible customers must commit to monthly payments of no more than 10 percent of household income.
