City to fund MNGL driving range
The city will partner with Turf Solutions and Management, or TSM, to open and maintain the driving range at Mississippi National Golf Links.
Red Wing City Council approved a motion 4-1 Monday to sign a contract with TSM and use general fund contingency money to keep the driving range open this year.
TSM submitted an estimated cost of $26,500 to open the range for seven months and $24,500 for five months. Costs include range maintenance, as well as equipment and staff for picking up and washing balls.
The driving range could bring in an estimated $8,000 of income per year depending on popularity, but city attorney Jay Squires said Associated Bank, which holds a bond on the course, may try to claim such revenue. The issue would likely be settled by litigation, he said.
A community forum to discuss future plans for MNGL will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday March 19 at the Sheldon Theatre.
