Worship in the park Aug. 23

Churches Around the Park will hold outdoor worship at 9:30 a.m. Sunday Aug. 24 in Central Park. Father Michael Way of Christ Episcopal Church will preach. United Lutheran Church will provide the worship team.

Coffee hour will begin at 9 a.m., provided by the Church of St. Joseph. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. In case of inclement weather, the service will be at United Lutheran.

Sunday supper will be served

Sunday Supper/Loaves and Fishes is a full meal prepared and served free of charge and open to everyone. It is being served at 5 p.m. Sunday Aug. 31 by the First Covenant Church at First United Methodist Church, 403 East Ave.

Have your backpack blessed

First Lutheran Church, Red Wing, will hold Blessing of the Backpacks at the 9:30 a.m. worship service Sunday Aug. 31. All members, not just students, are welcome to bring their backpacks to the altar railing for the blessing.

The following day, Bill Odermann will begin serving as interim pastor. He is from Austin, Minnesota. His background includes serving as a campus pastor at the University of Minnesota and chaplain with HealthEast hospitals in St. Paul.

Beeson installed at St. Pius

Father Terry Beeson was installed Aug. 16 at St. Pius V Catholic Church, Cannon Falls. The five-parish call also includes St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Miesville, and congregations in Hampton, New Trier and Vermillion, Minnesota.

Library books can be delivered

In cooperation with the Red Wing Public Library, Faith in Action volunteers are matched with individuals unable to get to the library. The volunteers will pick-out books, deliver to an individual and then return them through the Book House Call program. Timing is arranged with the receivers and the volunteers. Area churches are welcome to contribute items to the briefs, which run every weekend on the Religion page.
