Red Wing Minnesota 2760 North Service Drive / P.O. Box 15 55066

Six new members joined the Red Wing Area Chamber of Commerce from Dec. 10 to Dec. 14, making the week one for the record books.

"It was with a lot of hard work," Chamber President Patty Brown said. "We've done many, many, many member visits and perspective member visits throughout the year."

The efforts of Chamber staff and ambassadors certainly paid off. About one-sixth of the 35 total new Chamber members for 2012 came forward just before the end of the year. The record-setting week has raised the amount of total Red Wing Area Chamber of Commerce members to 316.

"For communities of our size, that is an outstanding number of members," Brown said.

Here are those that most recently joined:

InBalance Personal Money Management Services uses business and financial skills to provide assistance to people who struggle with day-to-day money management.

Red Wing Brewery is the first brewery to be in town in more than 60 years. Among its offerings are six house beers, local wines, soups and sandwiches.

Doreen's Custom Sewing offers sewing services from Doreen Eichman, who boasts 30 years of experience. The business focuses on upholstery and draperies, as well as clothing alterations.

Terri Cook, a Norwex Independent Sales Consultant, provides environmentally friendly cleaning products through her home-based operation. Norwex aims to reduce the use of chemicals in personal care and cleaning.

Storings Flooring provides sales, service and installation of all types of floor coverings. Owner Tony Storing is a fourth-generation installer.

Vintage Masonry, LLC works with concrete, tile, brick and other materials to create landscapes, patios, fireplaces and more. The business can also repair concrete and tile areas and assist with remodeling.

All six of the newest Chamber members have just opened themselves up to a world of benefits, Brown said. In addition to receiving frequent newsletters via e-mail, they will also be able to attend Lunch and Learn seminars, get involved with educational forums and take part in the Chamber bucks program.

• Mayo Clinic Health System's website, mayoclinichealthsystem.org, recently received a silver award during the 2012 Healthcare Internet Conference in Las Vegas.

The website, which features staff member information, health advice and a symptom checker, was cited as an outstanding health care site for consumers and health care professionals.

"This award is a great validation of the approach we are taking," Mayo Clinic Health System electronic communication manager Jeremy Jensen said. "We need to continue to find innovative ways to connect and communicate with our patients in a consistent way, while maintaining the local, community-based touch so important to patient health and well-being."

• Mark Dunn was named Hotelier of the Year by the Minnesota Lodging Association during its 2012 awards ceremony earlier this month at Treasure Island Resort & Casino.

Dunn has been in the hospitality industry for 34 years and began working for Treasure Island in 2008. He is the director of hospitality at Treasure Island, which keeps him involved in major property renovations like the expansion of the hotel to 478 rooms, the addition of a 24-lane bowling center and the doubling of the convention space to 50,000 square feet.

Hotelier of the Year is one of five honors bestowed on individuals and businesses at the Minnesota Lodging Association's ceremony each year. Others are Minnesota Hospitality Hall of Fame, Property of the Year (50 rooms or fewer), Property of the Year (more than 50 rooms) and Allied Vendor of the Year.
