Business notebook: Riverbend Market gets a fresh new look
Riverbend Market will have a fresh new look to go with its fresh produce and other goods.
The co-op in downtown Red Wing reports nearing the end of its remodeling. The Main Street store will be reopen Feb. 1 and be introducing new products through Feb. 5.
Over the course of five days, people can catch 13 live, in-store demonstrations by various producers.
The grand opening of the revamped space is planned in April.
Wieser Concrete of Maiden Rock had four employees mark 20-plus years of outstanding safety as 2011 closed. They are Rod Komro, Tim Niedfeldt, Don Schlosser and Bob Szymanski. In addition, Marlin "Red" Mears completed 35 years of service.
The University of Wisconsin-River Falls has received a STARS Silver Rating in recognition of sustainability achievements from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education. STARS stands for the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System, a new program that measures and encourages sustainability in all aspects of higher education.
UWRF was a charter participant in the STARS pilot program in 2008, during which the rating system was designed, vetted and refined to reflect the broadest base of sustainability efforts possible. The university's current report information was gathered and submitted through the St. Croix Institute for Sustainable Community Development, with campus support from more than 30 individuals in 19 departments spanning the full spectrum of administrative and academic faculty and staff, the university said.
The STARS participants report achievements in three overall areas: education and research; planning, administration and engagement; and operations.
The Treasure Hunters Roadshow returned to Red Wing this week. Specialists in antiques, jewelry and precious metals will be appraising and purchasing items through Friday at Country Inn and Suites, 4275 Highway 61. The hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
