Business fined for environmental issues
For the second time in two years, a Goodhue Township business has been fined for alleged environmental violations.
Minnesota Pollution Control Agency officials say Fitzgerald Excavating and Trucking broke state laws in 2008 by operating a solid waste facility without a permit, storing solid waste on the ground and burning solid waste instead of transporting it to a permitted landfill.
Company officials also illegally installed four on-site sewer systems from 2006 to 2008, according to the MPCA.
Business owner Jason Fitzgerald denied comment when contacted Monday by the R-E.
This is the second time since 2007 the MPCA has fined Fitzgerald Excavating and Trucking. The company was cited two years ago for operating a solid waste management facility without a permit.
Fitzgerald has already taken corrective action to meet state laws for managing and disposing of solid waste, the state agency said.
