Boys Tennis: Lake City's season comes to a close
The Lake City boys tennis team ended its season Friday at the Section 1A individual tournament in Rochester as the Tigers did not advance any individuals to the semifinals.
Lake City's Brady Kuchinka won his first round match 6-0, 6-2 against Miguel Jauregui, of Winona Cotter, but lost 6-1, 6-4 to Waseca's John Lewer, the No. 3 seed, in the second round.
The Tigers' doubles combination of Christian Custer and Andrew Schreck were seeded fourth in Friday's competition and won their first round match 6-2, 6-0. Custer and Schreck faced the fifth-seeded pairing from Cotter, Ryan Ortega and Tim Demarais, in the second round and won their first four games of the first set. Then, Ortega and Demarais took over and won the next 12 games for a 6-4, 6-0 victory.
"We just fell apart," Lake City head coach Dave Toole said. "They starting making some shots and we didn't' get up to it. We were hoping to get them through to the final four."
The Tigers' Riley Forcelle fell 6-2, 6-0 to Nathan Abbott of Stewartville in his first match of the day while Landin Burdis and Matt Kjos lost 6-0, 6-3 to Waseca's Josh Kimball and Josh Metzdorff in the opening round.
