One record in the last month wasn't enough for Tanner Alms, who set a pool record in the 500-yard freestyle Jan. 31 at Twin Bluff Middle School in Red Wing.

So nine days later the Red Wing junior set three more Saturday at the Missota Conference Championships in Shakopee, setting a pool record in the 200-yard freestyle in 1 minutes, 46.58 seconds and a pool and conference meet record in the 500 freestyle in 4:46.00.

But Alms wasn't alone Saturday as Red Wing ninth-grader Hunter Connelly set a pool record in the 100 backstroke with a time of 56.13 seconds and senior Adam Sienczak tied the pool record in the 100 freestyle while getting second place in 49.35 seconds. Sienczak also took second in the 200 freestyle behind Alms. Farmington's Christopher Kirchmann set the 100 freestyle pool record in 49.09 seconds.

The accomplishments were more impressive as the Wingers are currently tapering for the Section 1A meet Feb. 21 and 23 at Veterans Memorial Community Center in Inver Grove Heights.

"This is a tough meet to swim fast at, especially in our situation," Red Wing head coach Kevin O'Brien said. "With really no way get second place as a team, our eyes are really focused on the section meet. The boys, except for the state swimmers, have started their section taper and are excited to see how fast they are going to go."

The Wingers took third place at Saturday's meet, behind Chaska/Chanhassen in second place and Farmington in first.

Red Wing's 200 medley relay came in second place in 1:46.15, its 200 freestyle relay was third in 1:35.74 and the Wingers' 400 freestyle relay took third in 3:28.05.

Chris Byrne was third in the diving competition for Red Wing with a 287.35.

The Wingers' next meet is the Section 1A prelims Feb. 21 in Inver Grove Heights.
