Boys Soccer: Red Wing's offense explodes in win
In 2012, the Red Wing boys soccer team mustered just 13 goals in the entire season. But if Thursday’s game against Stewartville was any indicator for the 2013 squad, the Wingers have found a scoring touch as they came away with a 4-2 victory in Stewartville.
Providing Red Wing’s firepower was senior Teagan Olin, who finished with three goals, including a penalty kick. Jacob Zebro netted the team’s other goal.
“Teagan got two good set-ups from Dylan Goggin, and then got the PK to finish off this hat trick,” said Wingers’ head coach Brian Quigley. Then the other goal by Jacob, he got a beautiful set-up from Joppa (Olone).”
The Tigers got on the board first with an early goal, but after that, it was all Red Wing.
“It was kind of a surprise,” Quigley said of Stewartville’s early goal. “We beat them twice last year, and I think the kids took them a little lighter. When they saw them put in a goal early, we got up … they pulled it together and played really strong.”
In net, senior Andy Tarr finished with 13 saves for the Wingers.
“As far as a first game goes,” Quigley said, “We couldn’t be much happier.”
Red Wing (1-0) stays home on Tuesday, hosting Winona Cotter.
