Boys Soccer: PIZM rides defense, goalies, to win over PEM

With just four regular season games remaining, the Pine Island/Zumbrota-Mazeppa boys soccer team has finally found out exactly what it is. That realization came Saturday against Plainview-Elgin-Millville, a 3-1 win for the Wildcats.

Gilbert Wohlfromm scored twice for PIZM, and Brady Holst added the third, as the Wildcats rode a solid defense that gave up just five shots on goal.

Goalie Brady Schoenfelder had three saves and one goal against in 48 minutes before being given a red card. Holst, subbing for Schoenfelder, had one save in 32 minutes. Holst’s stop, in the second half, was key as it was on a penalty shot.

"Brady Holst was a stand-out; stopped a penalty kick and scored a goal," said  PIZM Coach Peter Wiggins.  "This was our best effort and best soccer of the year. We have found our identity."
