Boys Soccer: Hat trick puts Stewartville past PIZM

Stewartville’s LeRoy Malone led a strong offensive charge with three goals to put the Tigers past Pine Island/Zumbrota-Mazeppa for a 6-3 Hiawatha Valley League win Tuesday in Stewartville.

Along with Malone’s hat trick, the Tigers got goals from Josh Wilson, Graham Mueller and Justin Zabinski.

Gilbert Wohlfromm had two goals for the Wildcats, including a penalty kick. Kyle Mitchell added a goal of his own, and goalkeeper Matt Lyon finished with five saves in the loss.

“Our guys were a step behind tonight,” said PIZM head coach Peter Wiggins. “We had some good shots and defensive play, but we need to get to the ball and be able to pass and play soccer.”

The Wildcats (0-2, 0-1 HVL) head to Faribault on Thursday.
