Boys Hockey: Wingers top Chaska in Missota finale
With the Section 1A playoffs fast approaching, the Red Wing boys hockey team is heading into the postseason on a high note after picking up a 7-4 Missota Conference road victory over Chaska on Thursday.
With the win, the Wingers end the regular season at 4-19-2 overall and 4-8-2 in the Missota. Section seeding will be announced on Sunday.
The Hawks struck first on Thursday just 3 minutes, 30 seconds into the game on a goal by Brooks Wineberg. Red Wing defenseman Michael Bigelbach, who finished with two goals and an assist, tied the game at the 13-minute mark, burying a shot off a pass from Tyler Rea.
In the second, the Wingers scored three straight goals, starting with goals by Alex Rezansoff and Taylor Hanson at 3:20 and 3:39, respectively. At 5:40, Hanson tallied his second goal of the game to put Red Wing up 4-1.
Red Wing would need the three-goal lead as Chaska rattled off a pair of goals from Zac Rodenheffer and Wineberg. Then at 12:33, Fritz Belisle put in an insurance goal, putting the Wingers up 5-3 at the end of two periods.
Near the 7-minute mark of the third period, special teams stepped up for Red Wing as Kyle LaPorte put the puck in the net for a short-handed goal. Up 6-4 with less than a minute remaining, Bigelbach scored his second on a short-handed empty-net goal.
Rezansoff finished with a goal and two assists, and Dylan Goggin had a pair of helpers in the Wingers' victory.
