Both golfers finished with a two-day total of 159 to force a sudden-death playoff. Petterson carded a five on the par-4 first hole -- which was one stroke better than Jensen -- to win the playoff. Jensen hit a bad tee shot and failed to recover.

"I feel bad," Petterson said. "I've played with Nic before. He's a nice kid."

Petterson finished with a 77 Friday after shooting an 82 in the first round on May 27.

"I've been working through a couple things with my swing," Petterson said. "I was able to focus more on hitting the ball instead of swinging the club."

The state tournament will be played at Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan, Minn., on June 15 and 16.

Red Wing posted a team score of 336 Friday, finishing third with a two-day total of 668. Byron edged Rochester Lourdes 619-622 for the team title.
