Stewartville jumped out to a 39-21 halftime lead and never looked back, picking up a 71-54 Hiawatha Valley League road victory over Zumbrota-Mazeppa Tuesday in Zumbrota.

Ellis Hirman shot 10 of 12 from the free-throw line, leading the Cougars with 19 points. He also grabbed 12 rebounds (five offensive) and had three assists in the loss.

Kurt Gadient added seven points, but offense came at a premium for Z-M as the team shot 28 percent from the field, including 2 of 16 from 3-point range.

The Tigers’ Aaron Quandt led all scorers with 26 points, and had four rebounds and four steals in the victory. Evan Schlee chipped in with 17 points on 7 of 13 shooting.

Z-M (0-4, 0-4 HVL) heads to La Crescent on Friday.
