A stellar night from Jacob Ugland was not enough for Zumbrota-Mazeppa to overcome Annandale Friday night as the Cardinals topped the Cougars, 78-51.

Ugland scored 23 points on 69-percent shooting, including a 9-of-13 mark from 2-point range. Ugland also hit his only 3-pointer of the night, as well as all four of his free throws in the opening round of the Cardinals’ own tournament.

Annandale held a 46-29 halftime lead, a hole the Cougars could not dig out of despite holding the Cardinals to 32 second-half points.

The Cougars, still in search of win No. 2 this season, will take on Watertown-Mayer at 3:30 p.m. today in Annandale.
