Boys Basketball: Goodhue wins playoff opener

A 14-point halftime lead held up for Goodhue as the Wildcats opened the Sub-section 1A West playoffs with a 56-42 victory over Lyle/Pacelli Saturday afternoon.

Goodhue, the top seed in the west bracket, held the Athletics to 14 first-half points, scoring 28 in the process. Riley Bollum scored a team-high 24 points while also swiping three steals. Tyler Schumacher pulled down eight rebounds and scored 16 points, the only other Wildcat to hit double figures in scoring.

Alex Thomforde led the defensive charge, piling up eight of Goodhue’s 14 steals. Noah Jiskra led Lyle/Pacelli (9-17) with 14 points.

The Wildcats (17-10) will face fourth-seeded Southland (6-20) in the sub-section semifinals at 6 p.m. Monday at Mayo Civic Center in Rochester.
