In its final regular season game, Cannon Falls plodded along with Kenyon-Wanamingo to claim a 57-36 Hiawatha Valley League victory.

Hunter Johnson scored 12 points to go along with five rebounds, four steals and two assists in a game that the Knights tried to slow down as much as possible.

“We know each other pretty well, so that happens,” said Cannon Falls head coach Josh Davisson. “We’re just glad to get a win.”

Brock Peterson was next in line with nine points, followed by Alex Bultena’s eight points, Jordan Flemmons’ eight and Jordan Lundell’s five points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals.

The Bombers (18-8 overall, 15-3 HVL) will have one more game before the Section 1AA playoffs Thursday as Cannon Falls will head to Byron to face the Bears (18-8, 14-3) at 7 p.m. Monday in the HVL championship game. Byron won the sole regular-season matchup, 52-48, on Jan. 3.

“It’s a bonus game so it’s fun to play, and it’s a team we might see in the playoffs if we get that far,” Davisson said. “And it will be a competitive game going into the playoffs. The guys want to play more than they want to practice, so that breaks it up as well.”
