Sprinting out to a quick 45-20 halftime lead, Cannon Falls’ shooters hit 60 percent of their shots on the way to a 78-51 Hiawatha Valley League victory Friday at Zumbrota-Mazeppa.

“We shot the ball pretty well all night,” said Bombers’ head coach Josh Davisson. “Brock (Peterson) had five threes, all in the first half. … The combination of our defensive pressure and shooting the ball really well led the way.”

The aforementioned Peterson had a game-high 17 points, and Zach Stiehl came up with 13 in the victory. Alex Bultena chipped in with 11 points and four rebounds, and Jordan Lundell finished with eight assists and five rebounds for the Bombers (12-8, 9-3 HVL).

The Cougars (4-12, 2-10 HVL) were led by Jacob Ugland’s 12 points, and Kurt Gadient finished the night with 11 points and nine rebounds. Z-M struggled to find its stroke all night, finishing 39 percent from the field.

Cannon Falls hosts Pine Island on Tuesday, while Z-M is slated to host Chatfield on Monday.
