Boys Basketball: Big run pushes Chaska past Red Wing
Facing Chaska in Missota Conference play Friday, the Red Wing boys basketball team jumped out to a 13-6 lead.
Then, the wheels fell completely off for the Wingers.
The Hawks proceeded to go on a 17-0 run and never looked back for a 65-48 win in Chaska.
“We dug ourselves into a hole, and we didn’t handle ourselves well and we didn’t keep our composure,” said Red Wing head coach Doug Toivonen. “We played better in the second half and did some good things, but they’re too good a team to come back from that.”
Going up 39-23 at halftime, Jacob Hansen led the Hawks with 18 points, followed by Myles Hanson’s 15 points and Eric West’s 14 points.
Ty Buck was the Wingers’ top scorer with 15 points. Jon Sevlie had 12 points, and Isaac Toivonen had four points and seven rebounds. Joe Sevlie chipped in with six points off the bench.
Red Wing (12-7, 2-6 Missota) begins a three-game home stand on Monday against New Prague, followed by Farmington on Feb. 7 and Stewartville on Feb. 8.
