Baseball: Red Wing Post 54 falls late to Prescott
A second win was not in the cards for Red Wing on Thursday as Prescott scored in the top of the 10th inning to steal a game, 5-4.
Prescott scored twice in the first inning, but Red Wing tied the game in the bottom of the fourth on Thate Peterson’s two-run home run. Peterson had three hits, including a double, and two RBI in the game.
A single Prescott run in the fifth was answered by Red Wing in the sixth, and the two teams traded runs in the seventh. Cam Voigt and Peter Davig each had RBI singles while Tait Kelly finished 2-for-6.
In the 10th, with runners on first and second, a wild pitch allowed a Prescott runner to advance to third base. A throw to third resulted in an error, giving Prescott the lead.
Red Wing (1-6) was unable to come up with a run in the bottom half of the inning.
“We battled back, (and that was) great to see,” said Red Wing head coach Justin Plein. “(But) we had so many chances, (including) bases loaded in seventh and eighth.”
Red Wing has two games scheduled for next week, including trips to Eastview on Monday, and to Eagan on Tuesday.
