Baseball: Lake City sweeps Triton
Pitching and defense came up big for Lake City Monday evening as the Tigers swept a Hiawatha Valley League doubleheader against Triton, winning Game 1, 5-1, and taking the night cap, 4-1.
Elliot Cox led the offense in both games, going 3-for-3 in the opener, and hitting a three-run home run in the third inning of Game 2.
Luke Hartzell also got the bat going in game one, finishing 2-for-2 with two RBI.
Reid Lundell, Jarett Thomas, Andrew Schmidt and Michael Noll had a hit in each game while Trevor Gnotke and Alex Scharpen had a hit each in the first game.
Lundell got the win in Game 1, throwing six innings with one earned run on five hits and one walk to go with seven strikeouts.
John Brown threw all six innings in Game 2, giving up zero earned runs on six hits while striking out 10.
The Tigers (7-8) will head to Pine Island on Thursday.
