Baseball: La Crescent keeps Z-M's offense at bay

Zumbrota-Mazeppa has had trouble getting the offense clicking lately, and the bats didn’t come around Tuesday, either. La Crescent came to ZMHS and blanked the Cougars, 10-0.

The Lancers pounded out 15 hits in five innings, including three-hit nights from Matt Wieser and Brady Barton. Connor Nelson struck out five while allowing one hit.

“He threw pretty good. But we’re just having struggles at the plate, finding the holes. We’re just struggling offensively,” said Z-M head coach Chuck Ohm.

Jacob Ugland broke up Nelson’s no-hitter in the fourth.

Michael Wicks pitched three innings, giving up 11 hits with nine runs allowed, seven earned, with one walk and one strikeout.

The Cougars (2-7) will head to Pine Island Wednesday before a doubleheader against Lake City Thursday.
